To become a certified Top Employer, organisations participate in the HR Best Practices research survey developed by the CRF Institute. The survey covers HR policies and practices, and scores organisations on their performance in the survey relative to the International standard. The process is fully audited.

- Eligibility: An organisation is required to have a minimum of 250 employees nationally, or if the organisation is a multinational 2,500 employees worldwide.
- Fee: A research fee is applicable upon entry.
- Audit: Pass the external validation by Grant Thornton.
- Score: An organisation must meet the international CRF standards and minimum score in the HR Best Practice survey. Find out our criteria and how we verify this.
In 2012, 11% of the newly participating organisations did not qualify to be certified as a Top Employer.
The Top Employers certification has been recognised by the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs.
